Dental Crowns

Are you concerned about a tooth that is cracked, decayed, or just doesn't look right? A dental crown can put your mind at ease and give new life to a damaged tooth.  With an on-site lab, Joseph T. Mormino, DDS, in Staten Island, NY, can restore your tooth quickly, often in just one day...

What Is a Dental Crown?

Dental crowns are tooth-shaped restorations used to protect damaged teeth or to cover teeth that need cosmetic improvement. Unlike a porcelain veneer, a dental crown covers an entire tooth down to the gums. By enveloping the tooth entirely, a crown strengthens the tooth and shields it from further damage.

Crowns can also be attached to dental implants to replace missing teeth.

How Dental Crowns Are Placed ...

What Makes Our Crowns Special We Have a Dental Lab On-Site

Our dental practice in Staten Island is one of only a few in all of New York with its own on-site lab. That allows our dentist to work closely with highly trained dental craftsmen and patients in real-time to create a finely crafted dental crown.

Most dental practices need to partner with an outside facility to craft restorations, which means patients are sometimes forced to wear a temporary crown for weeks before their permanent one is ready.

Dr. Mormino's sophisticated on-site lab enables him to shave weeks off your wait time. He can even provide same-day crowns in many cases.

Perhaps the most important benefit of an on-site dental lab is that Dr. Mormino and dental technicians work side-by-side, allowing them to produce a restoration that exactly meets your expectations.

Natural-Looking Restorations That Last

Dr. Joseph Mormino places dental crowns–a trusted restorative dentistry solution–to repair compromised teeth. He can also place crowns to achieve cosmetic improvements. Crowns placed by Dr. Mormino have lasted longer than 15 years with proper care.

Loved the warm and friendly staff! The dentist was excellent. The on site lab made things move along so much more quickly with no extra back and forth. Convenient parking lot and coffee didn't hurt either :)

Me and my family have been going to Dr. Mormino for years. We have since moved off Staten Island, we still make the trip to him for all of our dental needs. Both him and his staff are the best around.

What Problems Can a Crown Solve?

Strengthen Damaged Teeth

A crack or decay can weaken a tooth. Dr. Mormino may suggest a dental crown to strengthen your tooth and avoid additional harm.

Hide Cosmetic Issues

A tooth that is the wrong size or misshapen can be transformed by covering it with a dental crown.

Complete Root Canal Therapy

At the end of root canal treatment, our dentist will cap the treated tooth with a dental crown to protect it and avoid infection.

Replace a Missing Tooth

If you've lost a tooth, a crown paired with a dental implant can restore the missing tooth. Unlike a traditional bridge, a dental implant won't require you to alter neighboring teeth.

What's the Process? Dental Crown Timeline

Our dentist, Dr. Mormino, has made the process of getting a crown fast and personalized.

The first step is an oral examination to determine the proper treatment. If you need a dental crown, our dentist will thoroughly explain the process and go over the types of crowns that are recommended for your situation.

We offer traditional crowns, which typically take two visits, or same-day crowns, which can be completed in one appointment. While the same-day option offers many benefits, there are times when a traditional crown is the best choice.

In either case, our on-site lab and sophisticated technology enable us to provide crowns in a fraction of the normal time without sacrificing quality and fit.

With proper care, your new crown can last for 15 years or longer.

Preparing the Teeth

Our dentist will first numb the treatment area and prepare the compromised tooth by removing damaged or decayed areas. He will then reshape the tooth to create a strong base for the crown.

Impressions

Our dentist will then make impressions of the prepared tooth so that we can create the custom-fit crown. If you need to return for your permanent crown, we will use the impression to make a temporary crown, which will be placed and checked to ensure you can chew properly.

Permanent Crown

Either the same day or shortly thereafter, we will place the permanent crown created at our on-site lab. If you had a temporary crown, we will remove it. We will then position the permanent one to ensure it fits properly and looks natural. The restoration will then be bonded securely in place, restoring your bite and the appearance of your smile.
